Rev. David Blackburn began serving as the Director of Missions for Ashe Baptist Association in 1997. David and his high school sweetheart, Linda Poe Blackburn and have been married for 50 years. After high school graduation David was called to serve his country. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War period from 1968 to 1971. It was during his time of service in Anchorage, Alaska that the Lord introduced him to extensive discipleship opportunities. Little did he know that God had bigger plans for him and an even greater calling upon his life. After returning to his hometown of Crumpler, NC, it was there that David accepted the call to preach and went on to serve as a bi-vocational pastor for 20 years. During this time David and Linda have two children, Kimberly Dawn Blackburn and David Joseph Blackburn. Linda is his partner in ministry. In 1997 God called David to leave his 27-year career at Leviton Manufacturing Company and serve as the Director of Missions for Ashe Baptist Association. He accepted this calling and the Lord has blessed tremendously. David is a visionary leader which has led the Association through spiritual growth, location changes, church plants, mission developments, disciple-making and evangelism, for twenty-one years. Ashe Baptist Association is the lead organization in many community-based projects and is known for our leadership and commitment to sharing Christ. Through God's leadership we are committed to unity among diversity. "Together we number 7,000. Alone we number one. Pray that we will serve Christ together, doing what we cannot do alone."
